Learn about Olive Oil

What exactly is it?

Extra Virgin Olive Oil is the juice from the fruit of the olive tree, which is obtained solely by mechanical or other physical means under conditions where no heat, chemical, or other processes may lead to alterations in the oil. Extra virgin olive oil must have a free acidity of no more than 0.80%, and flavor, color and aroma characteristics which correspond to those fixed within the International Olive Oil Council standard. Unlike vegetable oils, olive oil is extracted from a fruit, the olive, and not a seed.  Bragg Extra Virgin Olive Oil is 100% extra virgin olive oil, with no other oils added, and is made solely from Greek olives to provide is distinctive flavor.

    How to use it?

    • Perfect for sautéing, grilling, and baking and for use in sauces, dips, dressings and marinades.
    • Use as a natural beauty treatment for hair and skin or combine with sugar for a homemade lip scrub.
What are the benefits of Greek Koroneiki olives?

The olive tree originated in ancient Greece, and Bragg is proud to import extra virgin olive oil made solely from Greek Koroneiki olives! Renowned as “the Queens of olives” - Koroneiki olives are green and make a fragrant, strong, and peppery oil. Koroneiki olive oil is low in acidity and full of antioxidant polyphenols. Koroneiki olives (and oils made from organic olives) contain more polyphenols on average than other olives and olive oils.

What does “first cold pressed” mean and why is this important?

Many conventional oils use heat, steam and chemical solvents to extract the oil from the olive. Bragg Extra Virgin Olive Oil is only expeller pressed. Unlike Bragg, many mass oil manufacturers press the olives multiple times, which leads to a reduction in flavor, aroma, and health-supporting nutrients. “First cold pressed” olive oil—such as Bragg olive oil— is from olives that are crushed and pressed only once and are never heated during the process, resulting in maximum quality and purity.

What is the smoke point on Bragg Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil?

The smoke point on Bragg oil is 374-405°F. It is naturally high in monounsaturated oleic acid (a healthy fat), making our olive oil ideal for sautéing, baking, stir-frying, drizzling, and use in salad dressings.

How should I store my Bragg Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil?

Store in a cool, dark place.
