Live Longer, Look Younger, and Feel Great!

Live foods make live people! You are what you eat, drink, breathe, think, say, and do!

Reprint from Here's Health

Dr. Patricia Bragg believes that human beings can live to 120. When she says “live", that's not tottering along on a life support cocktail of drugs and hip replacements, but bounding with super energy and total health. “You are what you eat, drink, breathe, think and do", says Dr. Patricia Bragg, who has youthful skin, suppleness and vitality. “Your whole life will be transformed if you are a good steward of your health and life."

3 John 2 is the Bragg Health Crusades motto that her father, Paul C. Bragg started. He was the originator of health food stores worldwide. Patricia has been Clint Eastwood's personal nutritionist for over 42 years, has helped Madonna decide what type of food is best for baby Lourdes, kept the Beach Boys youthful for over 36 years and kept Dr. Scholl of footwear fame hale and hearty to almost 100.

She makes it clear that you don't have to be a Hollywood Star to get your body and mind on the path to total health. “Anyone can follow the Bragg Healthy Lifestyle", she says. “The Bragg philosophy is based around simplicity, so anyone can do it. Best of all, most things that are full of goodness are free: exercise, deep breathing, fresh air, gentle sunshine, good posture, healthy loving thoughts, smiles, etc. Smile, it takes only 13 muscles; a frown takes 64!" So get inspired with Patricia's plan and kickstart your way to total health...

Take control of your health and aging

Just because a person lives to be 60, 70, 80, or 90 is no reason to believe they should suffer from degenerative disease, such as hardening of the arteries. We are trained to link old age with inevitable decay. But think of all the people you know who look much older or much younger than their years - the body doesn't respond to time, but to treatment. Treat it well and you can defy the signs we have come to associate with ageing.

According to the Bragg life plan, “Your bloodstream is renewed every three months, every 11 months every cell in the body has renewed itself and every two years you get a new skeleton.

If you keep the body clean and purified by eating a diet that continually purifies the body, how can you get sick?" So take control of your health and take control of ageing.

Ill-health stems from the build-up of excess toxins in the body, says Patricia. When the body is full of poisons it cannot function properly. Avoid foods and drinks that dangerously clog, obstruct and throw waste into the human pipe system, the organs of the body, and the cells, she says. Study this list and never again let them pass through your body.

  • Refined, processed foods and snacks containing sugar, excess salt, white flour products or white rice and barley - use wholegrain and raw versions from health food shops instead
  • Fried Foods
  • Highly processed cereals – choose organic, unrefined versions instead
  • Hydrogenated oils, saturated fats and margarines containing trans-fatty acids
  • Caffeinated drinks and alcohol
  • Meat and poultry – if you find you can’t give them up, don’t eat them more than three times a week and go for organic, to avoid drugs and antibiotics from the animal feed
  • Preservatives – including packed meats containing sodium nitrate or nitrite and dried fruits containing sulphur dioxide
  • Day-old cooked vegetables, potatoes, and pre-mixed wilted salads
  • Pasteurized, filtered, distilled white, malt and synthetic vinegars – opt for organic, raw apple cider vinegar instead

Keep a health diary

It's time to be honest with yourself. Think about your health - have you had ailments, illnesses, operations? Have you used drugs, alcohol, eaten an unhealthy diet? How long have you been doing these things? Remember that these toxins are now buried deep within your tissues and will need time and patience to be flushed out. And what about your vitality? Do you feel slightly under par everyday, with niggling aches and pains, or simply sluggish?

Keep a diary of how you're feeling, mentally and physically, as you progress along the road to total health. The act of writing in your diary will make you focus on what you've eaten during the day and reaffirm your commitment to your health.

Clearing the toxins

Don't just launch into a huge health drive and expect to feel full of energy straight away. 'As you start this system of purification,' says Patricia, 'you are going to stir up old toxic poisons - almost everyone carries from five to ten pounds of deeply buried toxic poisons in their bodies at all times.'

So expect to have healing crises when the body throws up colds, headaches or other signs that the toxins are passing through your system before being eliminated. And be patient - it took years for the toxins in your body to build up, so they won't vanish in a couple of months.

Fast forward

Start your healthy lifestyle with a distilled water fast for 24 hours. Drink 7 to 9 glasses of distilled water on fast days, in 3 of them add apple cider vinegar and raw honey. You can also have some herbal teas and occasionally some fresh juices diluted with 3 distilled water. Fasting begins the self-cleansing of the inner body workings, so we can promote our own self-healing.

When we stop eating, our Vital Force - which is used to chew, digest and assimilate food and eliminate waste - is used to purify the body. Fasting is a miracle cleanser and rejuvenator. Patricia suggests fasting one day a week. She herself also fasts for three days at the beginning of every month. Always eat something raw to break the fast and re-educate your taste buds to the delicate flavors of raw foods. Diabetics shouldn't fast. If you have a medical condition, please check with a qualified practitioner before fasting.

Start raw

Always start your meal with a cleansing raw fruit or vegetable salad. Prepare a base of Patricia’s “Natures Broom” vegetable mix – chopped or grated cabbage, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, beetroot, and celery. Then add any other fresh raw vegetables you want and a healthy dressing such as lemon juice, garlic, and extra virgin olive oil. Eat as much as you can before you start on any hot food. Chew thoroughly and eat slowly.

Bragg Live Longer, Stronger, Look Younger Diet

Eat organic foods, which are the healthiest foods. Keep foods close to their natural state and in the least processed form. The ideal diet is raw fruits, salads, vegetables, brown rice, beans, legumes, raw nuts and seeds. Use natural flavorings such as garlic, onions, herbs, spices, kelp, lemon juice, Bragg Liquid Aminos and Bragg Apple Cider Vinegar.

Simplify your meals. Give thanks before meals, turn good music on, relax and learn to savor and enjoy natural flavors of fruits, veggies and whole grains, etc. You will enjoy peaceful, happy mealtimes and be less inclined to overeat. Breathe deeply, chew thoroughly, for your stomach has no teeth. Relax and you will find you need less food to satisfy your stomach.

Go organic—don't panic

Buy as much food organically grown as possible. Check out the supermarkets, farmers markets or grow your own. For more 'info' on organic veggie gardening check your local library. Even if you've only got a window box, you can grow some herbs, cherry tomatoes, radishes, kale, lettuce, spinach, etc.

Drink distilled water

Patricia says the body is 65% water and most people are dehydrated! That's why they wrinkle fast and age early, get constipation, piles and a blocked system. She drinks eight glasses of distilled, purified water daily.

Take vitamin C for overall health

Take this potent antioxidant 3,000 mg “C" daily. Patricia favors a mixed “C" powder with acerola, rosehips and bioflavonoids that you can add to liquids, but tablets and capsules are another option. All are available from health stores.

Key to health - good elimination

Constipation is a contributing factor to many health problems and can reduce your vital energy! Even people who have one bowel movement a day should be going more frequently, according to the health teacher of the Stars, who says trying to go to the toilet after every meal is best. She advises against harsh ingredients, laxatives, enemas or any kind of colonic irrigation as a quick-fix for hemorrhoids, constipation, etc. We should all have ample fiber, enough liquids and B vitamins. Good sources are: raw wheatgerm, avocados, brown rice, beans, most nuts, brewer's yeast, bananas, and vegetables.

Digestive boost does miracles

Five minutes before each meal, take 1 Tbsp distilled water with 3 tsp raw, Bragg Organic Apple Cider Vinegar. Hold it in your mouth for a few seconds, then swallow it to stimulate saliva.

Daily tongue cleaning

Patricia calls the tongue a “magic mirror". “It shows the amount of toxins stored in the body," she says. When you fast, toxins will rise to the tongue's surface. Patricia recommends cleansing the toxins away by gently scraping the surface of your tongue with the tip of a spoon. Then lightly brush your tongue from the back to the tip (do this daily). Follow up with a gargle of 1 tsp Bragg Apple Cider Vinegar in half a glass of distilled water to rinse away remaining toxins and bacteria. This gargle also soothes and relieves sore throats.

Cut down on stress

Stress breaks down your immune system and leaves you vulnerable to ill-health. Create de-stress time with simple, life-affirming activities, such as a walk in the park or simply relaxing to your favorite music. Your daily meditation and deep breathing exercises will also help you relax and stay calmer!

Exercise is vital for healthy heart

Go on a brisk walk of one to two miles, as often as possible. Do 10 to 20 repetitions of these simple exercises daily: Waist twist - Stretch up, stand tall with arms out at shoulder level. Bend elbows and rest hands on shoulders. Twist waist around slowly first to the far right and then to the far left. Toe touch - From a standing position with legs, knees relaxed, pump down gradually, stretching hands to toes. Then come up and stretch arms to ceiling. Repeat. Shoulder roll - Sitting or standing: lift shoulders to ears, roll forward, down, back, shrug to ears, repeat 10 times. Then 10 times in opposite direction. Knee lifts - Stand up, alternately grasp left knee to chest (toes point down) then grasp right knee to chest. Repeat. Windmill - Stand up in space enough to swing arms around safely. Swing arms forward in big circles at your sides, individually and then together, 10 times each. Repeat in opposite direction. Do this exercise when you need energy.

Deep, slow breathing exercises for health

Deep, slow breathing boosts your health, energy, aids digestion, clears the mind and soothes away stress! Lie flat on your back, relax, and slowly inhale through your nose. Place your hands on your lower ribs and feel them expand naturally as you breathe deeply. When your lungs are filled to capacity, purse your lips and slowly blow out the air. Then repeat the whole cycle. Do 15 times morning and evening. Read Patricia's book Super Power Breathingfor more breathing exercises.

Deep sleep is a recharger

Sleep repairs your body and gives you energy for the day ahead. Don't skimp on it. Make sure you get enough quality sleep to leave yourself feeling refreshed and energetic.

Massage for health, energy and relaxation

“The healing touch is wonderful", says Patricia. “Massage promotes good circulation, relaxation and vitality." Take advantage of it with self-massage. Something as simple as just stroking your limbs and body firmly, towards your heart, can leave you feeling energized and healthier.

Burn your bra—here's why

“Women shouldn't wear bras, only loose chemises", says Patricia. “Bras are so tight, they cut off blood flow around the chest area. Sluggish circulation causes toxins to pool causing problems. With good posture, exercise, a healthy diet and no bra, you can have healthier, more youthful breasts." Read the book Dressed to Kill on bra and cancer studies.

Enjoy delicious Apple Cider Vinegar Health Tonic

Raw organic apple cider vinegar (ACV) is a miracle. It can help with so many conditions - from arthritis, to sore throat and muscles and premature ageing, etc. Have the Bragg ACV health cocktail three times a day, preferably upon arising and one hour before meals, or mid-afternoon for a vitality boost. Simply stir 1 to 2 teaspoons equally of raw, organic apple cider vinegar and raw honey in a glass of pure, distilled water.

Instant Youth with Bragg posture exercise

Do this Bragg posture exercise often to retrain your muscles and improve figure: Stand tall, stretch up spine, tighten butt, suck in stomach. Now lift chest up and out, shoulders back and lift your chin up slightly. Put finger on nose, plumb line to belly button. Drop arms to sides and swing to normalize posture. Do in front of mirror and see the miracle difference!

Breakfast on the Bragg plan for life is the lightest meal of the day. People are in the habit of stuffing down heavy, protein-rich breakfasts. This makes you sluggish and sleepy because all the body's energy is diverted into digesting the food, says Patricia. You should eat easily digested whole fresh fruit, drink fresh juices or have an energizing drink.

The Bragg Pep Drink

1½ cups freshly squeezed orange, tangerine, grapefruit, unsweetened pineapple, carrot or greens juice or distilled water
½ tsp raw wheat germ
½ tsp green powder (barley or wheatgrass)
½ tsp raw oat bran
¼ tsp phylum husk powder
½ tsp lecithin granules
¼ tsp vitamin C powder
¼ tsp nutritional yeast flakes
1-2 ripe bananas (or any fruit in season)
1 tsp powered soy milk
1 tsp raw sunflower seeds
1 tsp raw honey (optional)
½ tsp flax seed oil (optional)

Blend all the ingredients together and drink immediately.

Morning resolve

Say this to yourself first thing every morning: “I will this day live a simple, sincere and serene life! I shall fast one 24 hour period weekly, eat only natural foods, get enough sleep at night. I will make every effort to improve myself physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually every day of my life!"
