With the nation’s high rates of obesity and the low odds of weight loss, perhaps weary doctors are just giving up. National statistics show that only about half of obese Americans were advised by their doctors to cut down on fatty foods. The rate, from a 2006 survey, has not changed from a survey taken in 2002.

Obese Kids More Vulnerable to Bullies

Children in grades three through six who are obese are more likely to be bullied than their normal-weight peers, a new study has found.

No one who has attended grade school—or who has even the slightest familiarity with children—will be surprised by these findings. What is surprising, however, is that obese children are bullied more often even if they possess qualities that can discourage bullies, such as having good social skills or doing well in school.
