ARTICHOKES WITH GARLIC & HERBS

4 arti­chokes
3 Tbsps fresh squeezed lemon juice
¼ cup Bragg Organic Olive Oil
4 cloves gar­lic, slice
1 tsp Bragg Liq­uid Aminos
⅓ tsp Bragg Sprinkle

Wash arti­chokes thor­oughly. Cut one inch off the tops. Remove stems. Place sliced gar­lic between the leaves of the arti­chokes. Mix Sprin­kle, olive oil, Liq­uid Aminos and lemon juice and sprin­kle over arti­chokes. Stand arti­chokes on end in a saucepan using steamer bas­ket. Steam for 30 min­utes or until tender.

Serve hot or cold, whole or halved, with tofu­naise (see recipe below).

Serves 4–8.

TOFUNAISE
¼ cup dis­tilled water
4 oz firm tofu, cut into pieces
shake of Bragg Sprin­kle
1 Tbsp sesame oil
1 tsp Bragg Aminos, to taste
juice from lemon
1 tsp turmeric (optional for color)

Blend all ingre­di­ents in blender until smooth. Yields 2 cups.

PEAS WITH LETTUCE and HERBS

PEAS WITH LETTUCE AND HERBS

4 cups shelled ten­der green peas
3 Tbsps Bragg Organic Olive Oil
1 small head romaine let­tuce
¼ cup scal­lions, mince
1 tsp raw honey
¼ cup pars­ley, chopped
⅓ tsp of Bragg Sprin­kle (24 herbs & spices)

Heat olive oil in heavy skil­let. Lay romaine leaves on bot­tom of pan. Place peas, scal­lions, Sprin­kle, pars­ley and honey over peas, well-distributed. Cover entire mix­ture with romaine leaves. Cover and sim­mer over low heat, adding 4 cup water when nec­es­sary to avoid dry­ness. Cook until peas are ten­der. Add more oil just before serving.

Serves 6.

Chinese Herbal Medicines for Preventing Diabetes in High Risk People

More research is required to estab­lish whether Chi­nese herbal med­i­cines can reduce the like­li­hood of devel­op­ing dia­betes, accord­ing to Cochrane Researchers. Although herbal med­i­cines are widely used in Asian coun­tries to treat pre-diabetes (impaired glu­cose tol­er­ance or IGT), the pre­cur­sor of the dis­ease, researchers say there is still not enough hard sci­en­tific evi­dence to con­fi­dently rec­om­mend their use.
