Bragg Health Team Educates & Inspires Santa Barbara Children on Healthy Eating and Growing Organic Veggies.

Foothill School students with Patricia and Farmer Sergio

Monday May 10, 2010 - Patricia Bragg and Bragg Health Institute Health Education Team visited 5 classrooms at Foothill Elementary School – Kindergarten to 6th grade — to ‘kick off’ a new educational nutrition program promoting better nutrition for Santa Barbara & Goleta public schools.

Farmer Sergio teaching students about organic garlic

Each class room, their teachers and teacher’s aids were given an amazing 45 minute presentation in the school auditorium by Bragg Health Institute Founder and Health Crusader Patricia Bragg, Nutritionist Dr. John Westerdahl, Organic Farmer Sergio. The focus of the Nutrition Education is to teach children the importance of eating more organic fruits and vegetables and how organic farming plays an important health role in environmentally-friendly, healthy plant foods.

In the beginning of the presentation Dr. John Westerdahl quizzed the children about the basics about organic vegetables, fruits and nutrition and when he repeated the same quiz at the end of the presentation it clearly showed that they had learned a lot of health information about what to eat and organic gardening in the 45 minutes class. The children were also interacting and asking many health questions.

More about The Bragg Health Institute School Nutritional Program

The Bragg Health Institute is partnering with the Santa Barbara & Goleta Union School District in educating students on the importance of good nutrition and eating healthy organic produce. The Bragg Health Institute and its Health Education Team is providing this program to the schools as part of its health mission outreach to the community.

Besides teaching children about eating more organic fruits and vegetables, the program also takes off on the theme of “bring a farmer to school” concept of educating school children of where healthy plant foods come from. Farmer Sergio’s Synergy Organic Farm is located on the Bragg Organic Farm and he will lead the school children in a discussion and educational presentation on the positive impact of growing organic vegetables and fruits.

This is followed by Bragg Health Institute Nutritionists and Health Educators Patricia Bragg and John Westerdahl along with Goleta Union School District’s Food Service Director and Registered Dietitian Sharon Baird.

Currently there is a national effort to educate school children of all ages about good nutrition due to a growing nation obesity epidemic among school-aged children. The Bragg Health Institute is dedicating its efforts to help in this effort in the Goleta and Santa Barbara School Districts.

The next Bragg Health Institute Nutritional School Program will take place at the popular Ellwood School on May 17, and next at El Camino School on May 18 and at Brandon School on May 24. Our goal is to educate and inspire all Goleta & Santa Barbara public schools about healthy eating – and hope to make this a nationwide effort soon.

The Bragg Health Institute is a public nonprofit organization which is an educational outreach associated with the Bragg Live Food Products company.
